Why they are here
The son of François Duvalier, who succeeded his father as president-for-life in 1971, at the age of 19.
His rule ended in February 1986, when a popular uprising forced him into exile in France. He returned to Haiti in 2011 and died there in 2014.
His government imprisoned, tortured and killed opponents, and he was accused of embezzling large sums of public money. Charges were brought after his return, but he died before any trial.
